Continual Professional Development
It may be useful and reassuring to our clients to learn of the courses and post graduate training that we all under take as we strive to maintain our knowledge of changing dental techniques and remind us of the practices that we all should be aiming for to keep a "Best Practice". With this in mind we shall periodically keep you up dated as to our activities and if you require more specific information the please do not hesitate to contact the practice.
Our dentists and dental nurses are all fully qualified and registered with the General Dental Council, which requires each member to meet Continual Professional Development(CPD) needs.
As a practice we are also regularly asked to give lectures on Minimal Intervention Dentistry as we are leading the way in preventative care.
We again were awarded the British Dental Association Good Practice Award, now Silver for so many years membership, in recognition of the high standards which we maintain. Some of us were lucky enough to attend a "once in a lifetime" course in Switzerland on white fillings. This was showing various techniques of using a new white filling material which can be used in almost all situations to allow you to have white fillings on even the most difficult of cavities. It was given by a real master dentist who hails from Lake Como in Italy and was held over a two day period.
We have continued to attend courses on hypnosis and relaxation techniques which should be most useful if you have a real fear or phobia of attending the dentist. Another course is coming up shortly which again should be most stimulating.
We are currently carrying out an audit with our patients on tooth decay and prevention which we hope to have published. We have a system set up where we can review your diet/eating/drinking habits and advise you as to how it maybe modified to reduce the chance of decay. We also have a saliva test kit which can indicate if your saliva is part of the problem that is causing your teeth to decay. Again if you would like advise then please contact reception as this service is currently free ( TO OUR CLIENTS ONLY!) and you may not be required to see a dentist. We are getting involved in cooperating with the Raglan Suite where we send patients for implants. This should allow us to provide a restoration just after an implant is provided and reduce waiting times as well as increasing our knowledge of your requirements. An implant is becoming very useful in replacing missing teeth thus avoiding major tooth loss through drilling construction of a bridge. We attended a very interesting course on root canal treatment which showed all the latest techniques and instruments thus allowing us to make your root treatment be easier and simpler.
We are actively involved in the Local Dental Committee which represents dentists is this area. This is a great forum for learning of all the latest developments in dental politics thus allowing us to keep you informed of any local and national issues which may affect you. We also have all taken part in Medical Emergencies in the Dental Practice which includes CPR training and reminding us of the routines involved in coping with that unexpected emergency that may arise ( or hopefully not!).
We have quite a number of meeting coming up shortly and hopefully we shall keep you informed of any exciting features in this area of our web site. We also have frequent "in-house" meeting at which we discuss various topics both clinical and non clinical in an effort to improve practice efficiency even further.
